BREAKING ALERT | SOS RESIDENTS OF KAMANYOLA
Urgent Alert – AfricaHeadline Style |

Kamanyola, Democratic Republic of Congo — A serious security and human rights alert is emerging tonight from Kamanyola, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to credible local sources who have appealed for urgent international attention.

Sources report that leaders of the M23/AFC, operating under the direct supervision of the Rwandan army, held a coercive meeting early this morning, starting at 8:00 a.m., with local administrators, officials and selected members of civil society in Kamanyola.

According to the information received, the meeting resulted in a decision to forcibly mobilise the civilian population, including community opinion leaders, neighbourhood chiefs, school principals, traders, market women and other local actors, to participate in a large-scale demonstration scheduled for Friday, December 19, 2025, in Kamanyola.

The planned demonstration is intended to stage a protest against the withdrawal of the AFC/M23, a move described by local sources as a manufactured political spectacle carried out under armed coercion, rather than a genuine expression of public will.

Civilians under direct intimidation

Residents say they are currently living under intense psychological and physical pressure, with explicit threats of retaliation against anyone who refuses to participate. The situation is described as a form of collective punishment imposed on those perceived as opposing the enemies of peace, in an atmosphere marked by fear, armed surveillance and the total absence of freedom of expression.

“We are being forced to march against our own will. Anyone who says no will face consequences,” a local community leader told AfricaHeadline, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

A cry for help to the world

This message was sent to AfricaHeadline as an urgent plea for international amplification. Residents of Kamanyola insist that the planned demonstration does not reflect popular sentiment, but rather represents a forced operation orchestrated by an armed group with external backing.

Local leaders are calling on the international community to recognise this situation for what it is: the coercion of civilians for political propaganda purposes.

Direct appeal to the international community

The residents of Kamanyola are urgently appealing to:

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo; The United States of America; U.S. President Donald Trump; The African Union (AU); International peace and security actors

to act immediately to restore peace, protect civilians and prevent further acts of collective coercion and intimidation.

Their message is unequivocal:
the people of Kamanyola reject the presence of the M23/AFC and hold the Rwandan government under President Paul Kagame responsible for ongoing instability, violence and the instrumentalisation of civilians.

A critical moment

This alert comes at a particularly fragile moment for the Great Lakes region, where recent peace agreements face growing risks of collapse, while armed groups continue to exploit civilian populations as political tools and instruments of propaganda.

AfricaHeadline will continue to monitor this situation in real time.
This alert is published in the interest of civilian protection and public awareness.
Silence, at this moment, would amount to complicity.

Kamanyola is calling for help. The world cannot claim it did not know.
