U.S. imposes visa ban over anti-christian violence in Nigeria

Washington — The United States has imposed visa restrictions on Nigerian nationals deemed responsible for rising anti-Christian violence. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the measures target individuals linked to “mass killings and systematic attacks,” including radical Islamist groups, Fulani militias, and other armed actors.

The ban also applies to their immediate families and may extend to government officials accused of violating religious freedom.

The announcement comes weeks after President Donald Trump warned that the U.S. could consider military action if persecution against Christians in Nigeria continues unchecked. Washington says the new policy aims to pressure Nigerian authorities to confront extremist networks fueling instability across the country.
