Canon has unveiled its new Colorado XL-series, a 3.4-metre large-format printing platform that extends the company’s proven UVgel technology into the 3.2-metre graphics production market. The new range is designed to deliver higher productivity, versatility and consistent quality across both flexible and rigid media applications, including signage, décor, packaging and point-of-sale materials.

The Colorado XL line includes two models: the Colorado XL7 roll-to-roll printer and the Colorado XL7 hybrid printer. Both models feature a modular, field-upgradable design that enables users to handle a wide range of substrates — from banners, films and vinyl to foam board, acrylic, aluminium composite panels and cardboard. The system supports media up to 52mm (2 inches) thick and achieves speeds of up to 211 m² per hour in express mode.
The platform introduces the UVgel 860 ink set, formulated for both rigid and flexible applications. Prints are odourless, instantly dry and highly durable, while maintaining colour stability even on heat-sensitive materials.
Canon has also launched new UVgel 850 PrintHeads, each equipped with 4,544 nozzles and built-in nozzle monitoring and compensation systems. A single printhead supports two colours, meaning only two are needed for CMYK, with a third optional for white ink configuration.
The XL-series also features UVgel FullBeam Curing, a 3.4-metre-wide LED curing array with a mirror system that ensures even UV light distribution. This innovation delivers consistent results across large surfaces and a wider colour gamut. Media handling has been upgraded through the UVgel TRIdrive vacuum belt system, which uses three interactive rollers and multiple vacuum zones to prevent wrinkling and skewing, ensuring accurate, repeatable media transport.
Optional features available from Canon’s existing M-series include UVgel White for white printing, FLXfinish+ for combined matte and gloss effects, and FLXture, which creates tactile textures that replicate wood, leather or fabric surfaces.
Mathew Faulkner, Director of Marketing & Innovation for Canon EMEA’s Wide Format Printing Group, said the new platform was designed to meet growing industry demands for efficiency and versatility.
“For the past decade, Canon has led the inkjet evolution in large format. With the new Colorado XL-series, we are taking UVgel technology to the 3.2-metre market, combining automation, modularity and creative potential in one system,” Faulkner said.
He added that the XL-series would help print providers expand into new markets such as packaging and décor, maintaining consistent colour and finish across various applications.
The Colorado XL-series will be available from early 2026 through Canon’s direct sales network and authorised partners.
