Lagos, Nigeria – The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has deployed sixteen highly skilled volunteers to Rwanda and the Republic of Benin, marking another step in Nigeria’s commitment to technical cooperation and South-South collaboration. The initiative aims to strengthen diplomatic ties through expertise-sharing, with volunteers contributing in engineering, education, and healthcare sectors.

Speaking at the deployment ceremony in Abuja, NTAC’s Director-General, Mr. Buba Yakub, urged the volunteers to serve as “technical diplomats,” carrying Nigeria’s values and expertise to their host countries.

Addressing the volunteers, Mr. Yakub emphasized their crucial role in reshaping perceptions about Nigeria while fostering sustainable development in Rwanda and Benin. “You are to be excellent ambassadors for our nation,” he stated, encouraging them to embrace their mission of knowledge exchange and capacity-building.

The volunteers underwent rigorous orientation to prepare them for the two-year assignments, where they will support institutions including schools, hospitals, and key social infrastructure projects. The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader foreign policy objectives, reinforcing its leadership in African cooperation and development assistance.

Since its inception in 1987, NTAC has deployed over 10,000 professionals across African, Caribbean, and Pacific nations, further cementing Nigeria’s role in international development partnerships. Team leader Prof.

Jafaru Usmanof the University of Maiduguri and Dr. Angela Akanwa, a senior lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, expressed enthusiasm about their mission, pledging to honor the trust placed in them by the Nigerian government.

NTAC officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the volunteers, ensuring that the initiative continues to promote regional cooperation and technical excellence across the continent.
