Internal rivalries within the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) are reported to be jeopardizing the stability of the region and impeding recovery efforts. Despite the signing of a peace deal in 2022, a power struggle between two factions of the TPLF deepened in recent weeks, resulting in each faction attempting to delegitimize the other.
This has made worse the humanitarian crisis in the area caused by the ongoing conflict. The division has also fostered a climate of fear and uncertainty, severely hindering efforts to address the challenges of the region.
Some analysts view the internal rivalries within the TPLF as a common feature of the movement. This has, however, not lessened the concern of the Tigrayan people about the potential for an escalation.
