In his acceptance speech at the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, Lourenço outlined his vision for the term, highlighting that developing road, rail, energy, and port networks will be key to Africa’s sustainable economic growth.
“A developed, industrialized Africa is not just a dream; it is a necessity. We must break free from economic dependency and create conditions where our people can thrive,” said the Angolan leader.
Another core issue was historical reparations for Africans and Afro-descendants, the AU’s chosen theme for 2025. Lourenço signaled that Africa will push for a reassessment of global financing policies, seeking fairer economic justice and easier access to development resources.
Experts believe that under Angola’s leadership, the AU could strengthen its position within the G20 and negotiate better financial agreements with international institutions.
