Mostafa Terrab, A career dedicated to innovation and sustainability

Born in 1955 in Morocco, Mostafa Terrab stands out for his academic and professional journey marked by excellence and innovation. With a solid educational background from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Terrab earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, followed by a Master’s and PhD in Operations Research and Systems Engineering. His technical education at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions equipped him to tackle complex challenges and lead across various sectors.

His career began in consultancy and research, where he applied mathematical models and optimization techniques to solve large-scale problems. In 1990, Terrab joined the World Bank, where he spent eight years working on economic development projects focused on the Middle East and Africa. During this period, he played a key role in public policy, infrastructure, and economic reforms, gaining experience that would later shape his long-term strategic vision.

From 1998 to 2002, Terrab led Morocco’s National Agency for Telecommunications Regulation (ANRT). His leadership was pivotal in liberalizing and modernizing the telecommunications sector, fostering competition and improving service quality across the country.

In 2006, Mostafa Terrab became Chairman and CEO of OCP Group, the world’s largest producer of phosphates and derivatives. Under his leadership, the company underwent significant transformation, modernizing its mining operations and expanding into international markets, particularly in Africa and Asia. He implemented a large-scale strategic plan, investing in new industrial complexes and international partnerships, further solidifying OCP’s global position.

Terrab also pioneered sustainable practices in the production of fertilizers, integrating ecological solutions to reduce carbon emissions and enhance resource efficiency. His sustainable vision positioned OCP as a strategic partner in agricultural development across several African countries, promoting solutions tailored to local needs.

Currently, Mostafa Terrab is actively involved in international forums on economy, sustainability, and agriculture, maintaining a strong commitment to global food security, especially by supporting smallholder farmers in emerging economies.
