The visit resulted in the signing of five bilateral agreements aimed at deepening collaboration. These included a partnership in energy focusing on renewable sources and power grid interconnection, a mining cooperation framework to advance technology transfer and skills development, and an agreement to boost agricultural production and food security.

Additional accords covered transport infrastructure to streamline trade routes and education initiatives to expand academic exchanges and professional training.

The agreements solidify a relationship rooted in historical ties and built upon the 1998 General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation and the creation of a Bilateral Commission in 2000.

Economic discussions at the joint Angola-South Africa Business Forum produced concrete outcomes, with both governments announcing plans to mobilise $2 billion in mutual investments.

Approximately 80 Angolan companies and 120 South African firms participated, signalling strong private sector interest in expanding trade and investment opportunities. Trade between the two countries exceeded $800 million in 2023, with projections of further growth driven by agricultural and industrial goods.

Regional security also featured prominently in the talks. The leaders addressed ongoing instability in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where Angola has acted as a mediator, and recent post-election unrest in Mozambique. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to promoting regional stability and development.

President Lourenço’s visit underscored Angola and South Africa’s shared vision for deeper integration within the Southern African Development Community and their leadership in advancing sustainable development on the continent.

The agreements signed and economic commitments made are expected to strengthen economic resilience and create new opportunities for both nations.

This landmark visit reflects a deepening of ties between Angola and South Africa, setting the stage for expanded cooperation across key sectors and reaffirming their role as key players in Africa’s economic and political landscape.
