Nigeria Technology Awards (NiTA) celebrates a decade of innovation

Lagos, Nigeria – The Nigeria Technology Awards (NiTA) recently marked its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of recognizing excellence and innovation in the country’s thriving tech sector. Since its inception in 2014, NiTA has honored more than 600 individuals, startups, and organizations driving Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Felix C. Nnuji, Event Director and Advisory Board Member, reflected on the awards’ impact during a gala event in Lagos that brought together over 1,200 attendees, including industry leaders, government officials, and international stakeholders.

“As we commemorate this milestone, we celebrate the innovators, startups, and companies that have redefined Nigeria’s tech landscape,” Nnuji said. “NiTA has grown into a prestigious platform that highlights excellence, promotes collaboration, and inspires critical conversations about the future of technology in Nigeria.”

Over the years, NiTA has spotlighted achievements in key areas like telecommunications, fintech, software development, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Notable honorees include Infinix, recognized in 2023 as the “Most Outstanding Phone Brand” for its cutting-edge innovations like the ZERO 30 5G, featuring a 50MP front camera capable of recording 4K at 60FPS.

standout, ipNX, received accolades for providing high-speed fiber-optic connectivity, earning titles like “Fiber-Optic Internet Provider of the Year” and “Fastest Fiber-Optic Internet Provider of the Year.”

Nigeria’s tech industry has become a beacon of innovation in Africa, contributing 18.44% to the nation’s GDP in the second quarter of 2022.

By the fourth quarter of 2023, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector accounted for 16.66% of the real GDP, underlining its critical role in economic growth and digital advancement.

As the awards look ahead, NiTA remains committed to celebrating trailblazers and fostering an environment that attracts investment and solidifies Nigeria’s reputation as a global tech hub. By highlighting achievements and inspiring innovation, NiTA continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology in Nigeria.
