Kigali, Rwanda – A group of students from RP Kigali College (Kigali Polytechnic College) has successfully developed a single-seat sports car in collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The vehicle was officially presented to President Paul Kagame and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem during an event showcasing the innovative achievement of Rwanda’s young engineers.

The project marks a significant milestone for Rwanda’s education and technological sectors. The car’s development was made possible through a strategic partnership between Kigali Polytechnic students and an FIA expert, who provided advanced technical guidance and oversight.

“This sports car is a testament to the ingenuity of Rwanda’s youth and the value of international partnerships in fostering innovation and technical excellence,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, during the unveiling.

President Paul Kagame, present at the ceremony, praised the achievement as a symbol of progress and self-sufficiency. “Projects like this demonstrate that Rwanda is nurturing a generation of innovators ready to compete on the global stage,” Kagame stated.

The single-seat sports car is not only an engineering feat but also a stepping stone towards developing advanced automotive technologies within the country. The project is expected to inspire similar initiatives focused on sustainabilityand technological advancement.

The collaboration between Kigali Polytechnic College and the FIA highlights the importance of international cooperation in enhancing technical education. With the support of an FIA specialist, the students were able to implement advanced engineering concepts, raising the standards of design and performance.

The successful creation of the sports car positions Rwanda as an emerging hub for innovation and technical educationin Africa. The project symbolises the positive impact of investments in vocational education and international collaboration.

With this milestone, expectations are high for further projects in the coming years, cementing Rwanda’s status as a model of excellence in engineering and innovation across the African continent.
