LUANDA — Angola is taking centre stage this weekend as the E1 Luanda GP 2026 brings the world’s first all-electric powerboat championship to Luanda Bay on September 12-13.
AfricaHeadline is on the ground covering the event, including the opening Q1 qualifying session, while using the championship’s international reach to promote a modern, dynamic and economically ambitious image of Angola.
At the heart of that effort is the “Like Angola – Economic Roadshow” video, an AfricaHeadline initiative designed to present a country that offers opportunities far beyond oil, from tourism and agriculture to manufacturing, energy, technology, infrastructure and the blue economy.
As electric race boats speed across Luanda Bay before an international audience, the video highlights what lies beyond the circuit: a transforming Atlantic capital, a young population and an economy seeking new investment, expertise and global partnerships.
Luanda joins the global racing circuit
The Luanda GP is the fifth round of the 2026 season, following races in Jeddah, Lake Como, Dubrovnik and Monaco. It is the championship’s first race in southern Africa, placing the Angolan capital alongside some of the world’s most recognisable destinations. The official calendar confirms the Luanda event for September 12-13.
The championship features teams linked to international stars including Will Smith, Tom Brady, LeBron James, Rafael Nadal and Didier Drogba, giving both the event and its host city significant global exposure. Smith travelled to Angola to announce Luanda’s addition to the championship.
His Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola team arrived in Luanda second in the championship standings with 110 points, nine behind Team Brady. Its association with the Visit Angola brand turns every race into an international platform for promoting the country.
The E1 championship is more than a sporting spectacle, it combines entertainment, clean technology, tourism and the blue economy. Its futuristic electric RaceBird boats, driven by mixed-gender pilot teams, reinforce Angola’s ambition to be associated with innovation and sustainable development.
Telling Angola’s story to the world
Hosting an event of this scale offers Angola an opportunity to showcase Luanda Bay, the capital’s waterfront, the country’s hospitality and its capacity to organise major international competitions. But the impact should extend beyond the chequered flag.
That is where the “Like Angola – Economic Roadshow” becomes particularly relevant. The initiative seeks to turn the E1 championship’s immediate visibility into a broader economic narrative, inviting investors, entrepreneurs, tourists and international partners to discover Angola’s transformation and untapped potential.
AfricaHeadline is covering the E1 Luanda GP with that wider purpose: not only to report who wins on the water, but also to show how Angola can compete for global investment, tourism and international recognition.
