The third edition of the Africa Policy Forum on Natural Capital 2026 will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 6-8 October. This high-level continental platform will focus on moving Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) beyond the production of accounts and into practical use in policy, public finance, private investment and development finance decisions.

Under the theme “From Accounts to Policy: Positioning Natural Capital Accounting for Africa’s Policy, Finance and Investment Transformation,” the forum will demonstrate how NCA can inform national planning, budgeting, legislation and investment decisions to transform Africa’s economies. Technology, artificial intelligence, and NCA’s contribution to green jobs and youth employment will feature as cross-cutting priorities throughout.

The Forum builds on the momentum of the first two Africa NCA Policy Forums, held in Kampala, Uganda (2019) and in Nairobi, Kenya (2023), which showed significant progress in developing natural capital accounts and strengthening peer learning across the continent.

The two-day forum from 6-7 October, will be followed by the launch of Phase II of the Mainstreaming Natural Capital in Africa Development Finance Project, financed by the African Development Fund’s Climate Action Window, and the updated Africa Natural Capital Accounting Community of Practice (Africa NCA CoP) Strategy 2025-2030 on 08 October.
