Upon his arrival at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo was welcomed with full honours by Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, who led an official guard of honour. The ceremony included the presentation of flowers, a military salute and the playing of the CEMAC anthem.

The summit, hosted at the invitation of President Paul Biya of Cameroon, gathers leaders from across the subregion, alongside key international financial institutions, including the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The central agenda focuses on stabilising the region’s economic performance to restore confidence among partners such as the IMF and the World Bank.

While still at the airport, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute exchanged brief initial remarks on the urgency of the summit. The leaders will address critical measures to confront the region’s macroeconomic slowdown, strengthening fiscal policies and ensuring more sustainable growth across member states.

The arrival of the Equatoguinean leader drew a significant turnout from the Equatoguinean community in Cameroon, who gathered at Nsimalen Airport in a display of solidarity. Among them were BANGE Bank employees and students studying in Cameroonian universities, who offered warm applause, songs, and chants as President Obiang was received.
