El-Sisi and Erdoğan reaffirm cooperation at joint press conference in Turkey

During a joint press conference held this Wednesday (September 2, 2024), Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan highlighted a new phase of cooperation between Egypt and Turkey. In his first official visit to Turkey, Sisi expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and underscored the historical importance of the relations between the two countries.

The leaders announced the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding, which will establish a new framework for cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, transportation, and agriculture. During the meeting, both leaders reiterated the goal of increasing bilateral trade to $15 billion in the coming years and facilitating investments between the two nations.

Sisi and Erdoğan also addressed urgent regional issues, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where they called for an immediate ceasefire and condemned the escalating violence in the West Bank. The two leaders agreed to continue coordinating efforts to promote peace in Libya and Syria, and they discussed solutions for the crises in Sudan and the Horn of Africa.

The visit marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Egypt and Turkey, with a focus on boosting economic and political cooperation for mutual benefit.
