MALABO — The Government of Equatorial Guinea has approved an emergency Ebola preparedness package worth 30.5 million CFA francs (approximately US$54,000) to strengthen national health security.
The funding will support the procurement of medical supplies, protective equipment for healthcare workers, diagnostic reagents and essential hospital equipment, while also financing specialized training for frontline personnel responsible for disease surveillance and emergency response.
Authorities have introduced stricter border-control measures, including mandatory quarantine and comprehensive medical screening for all travelers arriving from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where active Ebola outbreaks continue to be monitored.
The measures will be enforced at the country’s airports, seaports and land borders, supported by thermal imaging cameras, epidemiological surveillance teams and newly designated quarantine facilities.
Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue warned that a single Ebola case could threaten public health and undermine investor confidence in strategic sectors such as oil and gas, tourism and fisheries.
The government says the emergency committee will meet regularly to assess regional risks and adjust preventive measures, reaffirming its commitment to protecting both public health and economic stability.
