Host President Samia Suluhu Hassan underscored the urgency of a collective and diplomatic approach to restore regional stability. “History will judge us harshly if we remain passive while innocent lives are lost,” she warned.

Kenyan President and EAC Chairperson William Ruto stressed that the decades-long conflict in the DRC requires a comprehensive and negotiated solution.

“We cannot shoot or bomb our way to peace. The only viable path is structured and inclusive dialogue,” Ruto asserted, urging the M23 rebel group to halt its military advances and calling on the Congolese army to avoid retaliatory actions that could further inflame tensions.

Zimbabwean President and SADC Chairperson Emmerson Mnangagwa emphasized the need for unity between regional blocs, advocating for an African-led solution to the crisis. “Just as we stood together against colonialism, we must remain united to silence the guns and ensure peace prevails,” he declared.

The summit concluded with leaders agreeing on the necessity of a coordinated EAC-SADC strategy to support peace initiatives in eastern DRC.
