Equatorial Guinea and China strengthen cooperation on key projects

Lagos, Nigeria – Equatorial Guinea and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and advancing joint projects, marking a renewed effort to enhance their longstanding bilateral relationship. This was highlighted during a meeting on Tuesday, 21 January, between Vice President H.E. Nguema Obiang Mangue and Chinese Ambassador Wang Wengang.

The discussion, held at the People’s Palace in Malabo, also included the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Simeón Oyono Esono Angue. Vice President Nguema Obiang Mangue praised China as one of Equatorial Guinea’s key strategic partners and expressed optimism about further collaboration in the new Chinese lunar year.

Key topics on the agenda included the urgent need to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities through the acquisition of additional military equipment, as well as revitalising major infrastructure projects undertaken by Chinese firms.

“Cooperation with Beijing is built on a foundation of strong friendship and mutual trust, reflected in a fruitful partnership in critical areas such as defence and public works,” said the Vice President.

The relationship between Malabo and Beijing remains a cornerstone of Equatorial Guinea’s foreign policy, characterised by close coordination in international forums and a shared vision for development. This meeting underlined both nations’ determination to push forward strategic projects aimed at promoting economic growth and regional stability.
