Air Force One lands in Luanda

President Biden begins historic visit to Angola

Luanda, Angola – Air Force One, carrying President Joe Biden, arrived in Luanda today, marking a historic milestone as the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to Angola. The three-day trip underscores Angola’s increasing significance in U.S. foreign policy and its role as a key partner in Africa.

President Biden was welcomed at Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport by Angolan President João Lourenço and top government officials. The visit aims to strengthen ties between the two nations, focusing on critical areas such as energy, trade, and regional security. This follows President Lourenço’s meeting with Biden at the White House in December 2023, where the leaders discussed advancing cooperation in key sectors.

Biden’s visit is expected to include announcements of new U.S. investments in Angola, projected to surpass $5 billion, targeting renewable energy, mining, and technology development. The two leaders are scheduled to deliver a joint address at the Presidential Palace, where they will outline the next steps in what President Biden has described as a “historic partnership” between the United States and Angola.
