Kenyan startup launches accessible transport service for people with disabilities

Nairobi – A Kenyan startup has unveiled a new transport service aimed at improving accessibility for people with disabilities, ensuring safe and comfortable mobility across urban areas. The vehicles are specifically designed with ramps and wheelchair-accessible spaces, initially targeting Nairobi, with plans to extend operations to other regions by 2024

The initiative has received backing from NGOs and international social innovation funds, making it possible to offer subsidized fares for low-income passengers. Early reports indicate a 30% surge in users with disabilities within the first few weeks of the launch, highlighting the strong demand for inclusive transportation options

Beyond improving daily mobility, the service is fostering economic integration by enabling people with disabilities to actively participate in the workforce and social events. Kenya is positioning itself at the forefront of urban mobility innovation, setting a regional example with technology-driven solutions that promote equality and access for all citizens
