The soldiers, who lost their lives in clashes between the DRC’s army and M23 rebels, were honoured with a military tribute attended by government officials and grieving families.

President Cyril Ramaphosa praised their courage, stating that their mission was not just about maintaining order but about fostering peace and protecting communities.

The tragic deaths highlight the dangers faced by peacekeepers in conflict zones, yet South Africa reaffirmed its commitment to regional stability.

As soldiers’ coffins, draped in national flags, were handed over to their families, the ceremony stood as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of peace and security in Africa.
