Since 2021, the Democratic Alliance (DA), ActionSA, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), and the Freedom Front (FF) Plus have been governing Tshwane.Since being elected as Tshwane mayor 18 months ago, Brink said he had fulfilled his four main obligations. These are stabilising the capital city’s finances, improving service delivery, driving energy independence from Eskom, and providing clean water to the cholera-affected area of Hammanskraal.

In his time in charge, Tshwane improved its audit outcome from adverse to qualified.

Brink has also led an initiative to lease out two of the city’s decommissioned power stations to the private sector, and he says by October, the residents of Hammanskraal will have clean drinking tap water.

Brink is due to face a vote of no confidence next Thursday, and without the support of ActionSA, his coalition doesn’t have enough numbers to prevent it from passing.
