Lagos — Morocco celebrated a six-decade partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) in a ceremony held in Rabat, highlighting the bank’s significant role in Morocco’s socio-economic progress. Opening the event, Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, praised the “60 years of excellence and success” that have shaped the country’s development journey with AfDB support. The event gathered public figures, development partners, and bank representatives to reflect on this partnership’s impact under the theme “60 Years Making a Difference.”

Achraf Tarsim, AfDB’s resident representative for Morocco, emphasized the partnership’s deep-rooted success, stating, “Today we celebrate not only a unique partnership with Morocco but the many human stories and achievements that drive it.” He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to tackling new challenges alongside Morocco, showcasing the enduring strength of this collaboration. Special awards were presented to key figures, including Minister Fettah, for their roles in fostering this relationship.

Since initiating its first project in Morocco in 1978, AfDB has invested over $15 billion across 150 projects spanning water, energy, transportation, agriculture, and social development. These strategic investments have bolstered Morocco’s infrastructure, with a particular focus on energy, water, and sanitation, marking AfDB’s ongoing dedication to Morocco’s sustainable development.
