A new report has confirmed “unprecedented” fighting in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Authored by The Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab, the report reveals that scores of impacts, “likely related to high tempo aerial bombardment”, have been observed through satellite imagery in eastern and southern El Fasher.

The findings confirm reports of army airstrikes targeting RSF positions in the east of the city. The RSF has reportedly captured most of Darfur, and the fighting has intensified over El Fasher, which is the only Darfuri regional capital not to have fallen to the RSF.

The war which began on April 15, 2023, between the SAF and RSF continues to escalate, while both sides are supplied weapons and ammunition by foreign powers, according to rights groups.
