Egypt condemns attempted drone attack targeting Saudi Arabia

CAIRO — Egypt on Monday strongly condemned an attempted drone attack targeting the territory of Saudi Arabia, reaffirming Cairo’s full support for the Kingdom amid heightened regional security tensions.

In a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Cairo expressed “full solidarity” with Riyadh and backed all measures taken by Saudi authorities to protect the Kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the safety of its citizens and residents.

Egypt said the security of Gulf states remained a “fundamental pillar” of Egyptian national security and broader regional stability, reflecting Cairo’s strategic alignment with Gulf allies at a time of persistent geopolitical tensions across the Middle East.

The statement warned that attacks involving drones and other cross-border threats risk further destabilising the region and undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation.

“Such blatant violations of international law further complicate the current regional situation and hinder efforts to reduce tensions,” the ministry said.

The statement did not identify the source of the attempted drone attack, and Saudi authorities have yet to release further operational details about the incident.

The condemnation comes as regional governments continue to strengthen air defence and security coordination in response to the growing use of drones in conflicts across the Middle East, where unmanned aerial systems have increasingly been used to target strategic infrastructure, energy facilities and military positions.

Saudi Arabia has faced several drone and missile threats in recent years, prompting major investments in air defence systems and regional security partnerships.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia maintain close political, economic and security ties and have frequently coordinated positions on regional crises, including conflicts affecting the Gulf, the Red Sea and neighbouring states.
