Ghana launches 2025 voluntary national review for sustainable development goals

Ghana has officially initiated its 2025 Voluntary National Review (VNR) process, aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This marks the third time the country has conducted such a review since adopting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015, highlighting its ongoing commitment to progress and to refining strategies that promote global targets.

The launch ceremony took place virtually in Accra, where the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Professor George Gyan-Baffour, emphasized the importance of this process for the nation. “Since adopting the agenda in 2015, Ghana has continuously refined its approaches, drawing lessons from previous reviews,” stated the professor. He underscored that the 2025 Review will help assess the impact of implemented policies and allow for recalibrating strategies in line with national priorities and global challenges.

The Ghanaian government aims to use this review to track progress in key areas such as education, health, gender equality, and environmental sustainability, further strengthening partnerships across public, private, and local community sectors. The NDPC emphasized that the review process is an opportunity to identify both achievements and challenges while reaffirming the country’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

Through the 2025 VNR, Ghana hopes to consolidate its advances and contribute a narrative that underscores the importance of adaptive policies and continued collaboration to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
