Modernization and expansion of national production in Angola: A 2024 strategic approach

The Angolan government is spearheading a transformative effort to strengthen key productive sectors through its Modernization and Expansion of National Production strategy.

This initiative emphasizes modernizing agriculture and manufacturing with advanced technologies and streamlined processes to diversify the economy and enhance food security.

In 2024, Angola’s GDP is projected to grow by 3.01%, driven largely by non-oil sectors, which are expected to post a 5.31% increase. Agriculture remains at the forefront, with the 2023/2024 farming season achieving a 6.6% boost in output. This surge underscores the collaboration between smallholder farmers and commercial enterprises, cementing agriculture as a cornerstone of economic independence.

To further stimulate local production, the government has allocated 50% of customs revenues from food imports to the Angolan Agricultural Development Fund (FADA).

The initiative aims to reduce dependence on imports by bolstering domestic food production. Additionally, the government has approved the construction of a fertilizer production plant, scheduled for completion by 2027, ensuring a reliable supply of agricultural inputs.
