The meeting, attended by Heads of State, Foreign Ministers, and representatives from the African Union, sought to chart a path toward stability in the conflict-ridden nation.

The summit commenced with the official reception of African leaders, followed by the customary group photograph and the performance of national anthems from Tanzania, the EAC, and SADC, setting the stage for closed-door deliberations.

Tanzanian President and summit host Samia Suluhu Hassan opened proceedings with a powerful call for African unity and a coordinated response to end hostilities in the DRC.

Kenyan President William Ruto, who chairs the EAC, emphasized the urgency of an immediate ceasefire and the need for inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the current SADC chair, reiterated that the DRC crisis is not an isolated issue but a broader threat to regional stability. Also in attendance was African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, alongside representatives from the Angolan government, which has played a key mediating role in peace efforts.

Throughout the summit, leaders discussed various strategies, including strengthening regional peacekeeping missions and reinforcing diplomatic initiatives such as the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes.

There was a broad consensus that a resolution to the DRC crisis must uphold the country’s sovereignty and ensure the inclusion of all affected parties in negotiations.

The summit concluded with a joint declaration in which African leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a coordinated approach for achieving a lasting ceasefire and initiating a national reconciliation process. However, the success of this initiative hinges on the effective implementation of the agreed measures and continued international support for African-led peace efforts.
