Speaking during the second panel of the VII Telecom Forum, themed “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Future of Telecommunications”, de Oliveira addressed the vital role AI will play in shaping the sector.

De Oliveira highlighted the growing demand for data and connectivity, driven by an exponential increase in connected devices and the need for more robust and intelligent networks. In this context, AI emerges as a critical tool to enhance information transmission and knowledge-sharing within the telecommunications industry.

“AI enables machines to simulate human intelligence—learning, reasoning, and solving problems,” he explained. He also outlined its current applications, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, and expert systems.

While underscoring AI’s potential, de Oliveira noted the significant challenges the industry faces in its adoption. These include high initial investment costs, data management, cybersecurity concerns, energy consumption, environmental impact, cultural shifts, and regulatory frameworks. “It’s important to stress that AI is not cheap,” he added.

“The future of telecommunications will depend on companies’ ability to adopt and integrate AI effectively while balancing innovation with social responsibility,” de Oliveira stated.

The VII Telecom Forum, held under the theme “The Future of Telecommunications in Angola – Industries, Services, and Enterprises”, underscores the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in driving the sector’s progress. De Oliveira reaffirmed that leveraging AI intelligently would not only reshape telecommunications but also contribute to a better world.
