Manmohan Singh, former Indian Prime Minister, dies at 92 in New Delhi

Lagos, Nigeria – Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday (26) at the age of 92 in a New Delhi hospital. Singh reportedly lost consciousness at his residence before being taken to the hospital, where he later died. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Manmohan Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, preceding Narendra Modi. He is widely regarded as the architect of a historic nuclear deal with the United States and a driving force behind key economic liberalisation reforms during his tenure as both Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

As head of government, Singh played a pivotal role in opening India’s economy to the global market, earning a reputation as one of the nation’s most influential leaders.

Current Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, praising Singh’s wisdom and humility. “Manmohan Singh’s contributions to the nation were invaluable. He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the people and always displayed wisdom and humility in his interactions,” Modi said, describing him as a “distinguished leader.”

India bids farewell to a significant figure in its modern history, remembered for his understated yet impactful leadership.
